    Assistant Superintendent

    Fyre Lake Golf Club

    Description

    Built in 2010, Fyre Lake Golf Club is an 18-Hole Public Golf Course located in Sherrard, IL. One of the few

    Nicklaus Designs in the state of Illinois, Fyre Lake is carved through a beautiful, undulating terrain with

    the namesake lake creating some of the most breathtaking shots in the area. A par 70 measuring over

    6500 yards, this course is a true test to all levels of golfers.

    Duties and Responsibilities

    The Assistant Superintendent will be tasked with maintaining the agronomy of the course at the highest

    levels. They will directly report to the Course Superintendent and their duties shall be as follows:

    ● Develop Plant Protectants Program

    ● Execute all pesticide applications

    ● Perform course setup on daily basis

    ● Manage, direct, educate and train seasonal employees

    ● Scout and manage any diseases

    ● Maintain inventory

    ● Communicate with Pro Shop personnel on course conditions daily

    ● Interface with members regularly

    ● Active local chapter involvement

    Education/Other Requirements

    ● Either have or be able to obtain a pesticide applicator's license upon hiring.

    ● College degree preferred but not required

    Salary

    $18-20/Hr DOE; Overtime and Vacation Available as well

    Seeking an assistant superintendent at Pleasant Valley Golf Course located in Iowa City. Must have or ability to obtain Iowa 3T pesticide certificate. Driver's license. Must have attended turf school or are currently attending. Experience in lieu of education is also acceptable. 

    All aspects of golf course management including chemical planning and applications, irrigation system repair, water management and planning, equipment operations, employee scheduling, will be taught. 

    Every other weekend in season is required. 40 + hour work week. Call or text to set up interview.

    • Minimum education: Completion of 2- or 4-year turf management/horticulture/agriculture degree or degree in progress.

      Desired experience: Experience working on a golf course, turf plot, or in agriculture.

      Hours per week: 40 hours with overtime possibilities.

      Pay Rate: $20 per hour.

      Primary Duties:

    •  Direct grounds crew in conjunction with Lead Assistants.
    • Water greens and engage in moisture management practices course wide.
    • Assist in the spray applications process as required.
    • Assist in irrigation repair on course grounds.
    • Lead lower-level employees in the completion of course projects.
    • Perform precise equipment operation including tractors, mowers, skid-steers, and assorted equipment.
    • Collaborate with lead assistants and superintendent of grounds to complete assigned tasks.
    • Fully engage in project work on the course.
    • Assist in tree removal during winter months.
    • Cut cups and perform daily course set-up tasks.
    • Hand water hot spots including tees, fairways, and green surrounds.

    This position requires a strong work ethic and positive attitude in the performance of work duties. We guide a dynamic, challenging, and ever-changing work week, and are looking for an individual who is motivated by a variety of assigned turfgrass assignments in the field. We operate with two lead assistants and expect this position to interface with entire turf team at the organization.

    Our superintendents take a hands-on role in guiding, coaching, and leading employees. It is expected that you will show a willingness to learn and grow alongside us. We also recognize the need for a work-life balance, so this position is targeted at 40 hours per week with overtime possibilities.     Wakonda Club is excited to announce the exceptional opportunity of Second Assistant Superintendent.  Founded in 1922, Wakonda Club is a private, member-owned golf and country club located in the heart of Des Moines which also hosts the Principal Charity Classic on The Champions Tour annually.     • Train staff on proper equipment operation, established procedures and techniques so that staff are aware of how to properly perform assigned tasks          
    • Repair of irrigation control boxes, pipes and irrigation heads as needed
    • Apply pesticides and fertilizers accurately and responsibly
    • Have a high level of attention to detail and to evaluate the course from the player's perspective
    • Lead crews to execute projects
    • Any other duties as may be required by Golf Course Superintendent or 1st Assistant Superintendent

    Assistant Superintendent

    Beaver Hills Country Club is looking for an experienced, highly motivated Assistant Superintendent with a great work ethic. 

    Beaver Hills opened in 1965 and has gone through many changes over the past 15 years. New bunkers in 2008, clubhouse remodel in 2010, and re-grassing of all greens, tees, and fairways in 2012 to newer bent grass. Tree removal and tree management has been a big focus over the past 5 years due to the Emerald Ash Borer.  We have a lot of capital improvement projects coming up over the next few years such as bridge replacements, cart path improvements, tee box improvements, and bunker improvements. 

    We have a Toro irrigation system that was installed in 1999. In 2019, we upgraded to Lynx Central Control, Network VP satellites, and have slowly been converting to Infinity heads. The irrigation pumps were also replaced in 2019. Our turf equipment is on an aggressive replacement program. Everything is in great condition with a solid mix of Toro and John Deere. 

    Beaver Hills has a young, growing, and active membership. We are proud of our golf course, great work environment and our employees are treated well!

    Experience Requirements

    2-4 years of experience working on golf course is required. Previous experience as an Assistant Superintendent (or Superintendent) is preferred.

    Educational Requirements

    Turf Certificate, Associate's, or Bachelor's Degree in a related field (if no education, we'll still take applications with at least 3 years experience as a Superintendent or Asst. Superintendent on a golf course)

    Must have, or obtain within 90 days, Iowa Category 3OT Pesticide Applicator's License. 

    Special Requirements

    Coordinates duties with the Superintendent and Mechanic daily. 

    Responsible for the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and training of the seasonal maintenance staff.

    Will be instrumental in applying chemicals and fertilizers using both sprayers and fertilizer spreaders. 

    Assists with all landscaping needs. Maintaining ornamental beds, trimming, mulching, planting annuals, etc.

    Applicant will assist or be responsible for leading projects such as re-building bunkers, tree removal, stump grinding, tree trimming, irrigation repair, sodding, bridge replacement, replacing/tearing out cart paths, landscaping, and so on.  

    Responsible for leading all cultural programs such as aerification, verti-cutting, and weekly topdressing. 

    Experience with irrigation repair is not required but would be very beneficial. 

    Experience operating a chain saw is required. 

    Applicant will be required to assist in snow removal over the winter.

    Salary

    $45,000 - $55,000
