    Des Moines Golf and Country Club is a 36 Hole, Private Country Club designed by Pete Dye. We have hosted the 1999 USGA Senior Open and the 2017 Solheim Cup. Both golf courses are of championship quality.

    The Second Assistant Superintendent aids the superintendent(s) and the Director of Grounds in the planning and executing of work schedules, maintenance programs and construction details.

    Duties and Responsibilities:

    1. Assists in planning daily work schedules.
    2. Assists superintendent in the training of employees.
    3. Assists in supervision of various construction projects.
    4. Applies fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
    5. Helps prepare the course setup for daily play.
    6. Keeps informed on course starting times and special events.
    7. Assists in snow removal.
    8. Sets good examples for others to follow in job performance, work safety, equipment care, attendance and striving for efficiency.
    9. Perform other duties as assigned.

    As an assistant superintendent under our program, you will have every other weekend off all summer. Our typical day is an 8 hour day and we work 4 hours each day on weekends. We do believe in maintaining a positive work life balance for our employees. We want our employees to be happy and engaged in our work culture. We have many interesting things happening each month for our employees. Our assistant superintendents will work an average of 100 - 150 hours of overtime per year. Our assistants will receive time and 1/2 pay for overtime hours work.

    Educational Requirements
    A minimum of a 2-year AAS degree in turf grass management or related horticulture field.
    Experience Requirements
    A minimum of at least 1 year working in the golf course maintenance field.
    Special Requirements
    Applicant must be able to obtain an Iowa Pesticide Applicators License. Applicant must be able to obtain a State of Iowa Driver's License.

    Whispering Creek Golf Club is an 18-hole, semi-private championship golf course built in 2000. Over its short career, Whispering Creek has hosted multiple Iowa Golf Association events which include the Iowa Amateur in both 2006 and 2015. It was awarded Iowa Golf Course of the Year in 2007. Whispering Creek is in search of an assistant superintendent to help take care of a wonderful and challenging golf course for a very vibrant and energetic membership. The golf course greens are bentgrass while the fairways and tees are a kentucky bluegrass mix.

    Job Description:

    • Work closely with superintendent on planning and scheduling
    • Assist in all aspects of golf course maintenance
    • Maintain Toro Irrigation system and set up watering programs
    • Help oversee and apply necessary pesticide applications
    • Train maintenance employees
    • Maintain and supervise turf equipment (Toro)

    Job Qualifications:

    • 2+ years of golf course experience
    • Basic understanding of Golf Irrigation Software and Repairs
    • Basic Understanding of fertilizer and pesticide applications as well as good record keeping

    Spirit Hollow is currently looking to fill the position of Assistant Golf Course
    Superintendent. Within the next 18 months, Spirit Hollow will begin an extensive
    renovation. The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will assist the Golf Course
    Superintendent during this renovation. This is a wonderful opportunity for the
    right individual to gain a great deal of experience and enhance his / her career

    path. The renovation will include:

    • A new irrigation system
    • Construction of a new lake system that will serve as our primary irrigation water source.
    • Addition of several new bunkers and renovation of all existing bunkers (Better Billy Bunker System)
    • Conversion of over 30 acres from primary rough to fescue
    • Grading and renovation of multiple fairways and green complexes
    • Re-design of multiple tees
    • Re-routing of various cart paths

    Assistant GC Superintendent


    The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course
    superintendent. Under the superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent
    directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways,
    and cart paths; supervises the maintenance and repair of motorized and other
    mechanical equipment; and does related work as required. The assistant

    superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his/her absence.


    • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises the employees and the use of the equipment.
    • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; assists the superintendent with pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; and supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, and in the maintenance of irrigation and drainage systems.
    • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety and personnel discipline.
    • May modify the daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.

    Employment standards
    •  Working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways and greens; seeding and maintenance practices for golf course turf; planting, cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation systems, including wells, pumps and automatic controls.
    • Ability to schedule and supervise maintenance work to achieve the most efficient utilization of workers and equipment; prepare clear and concise reports; and maintain effective employee and public relations.
    • Possession of a valid driver's license.
    • Required to hold a current state certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator.


     3 – 5 years in Golf Course Maintenance. Associates / Bachelor’s Degree
    Agronomy or related field. Different combinations of education and experience

    may be considered.


    Salary – $50,000-$65,000

Maple Bluff Country Club, established in 1899, is a private 18-hole facility located in Madison, Wisconsin.     Education and Experience Requirements:
