    Hyperion Field Club is currently accepting applications for a 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent.

    Established in 1910, Hyperion Field Club is a private 18-hole facility located north of Des Moines, Iowa. The course features bentgrass tees & fairways, and recently renovated greens and bunkers. The staff is dedicated to a positive environment prioritizing personal growth.

    The candidate will be responsible for performing functions required to assist the Golf Course Superintendent in assuring that the golf course and related areas are in the best possible condition with the least amount of member inconvenience. Additionally, the candidate must have or be able to obtain an Iowa Pesticide Applicator License within 60 days of employment. Candidate reports to Golf Course Superintendent.

    Education: Two or four-year degree in turf management is preferred.

    Experience: Prior experience in golf course maintenance is beneficial.

    Salary: $19-21/ hour, Commensurate with experience

    Golf Maintenance Crew Leader / Assistant Superintendent

    Acts as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to lead a crew of golf course maintenance workers to perform semi-skilled and skilled maintenance on the Heritage Oaks Legacy 9 and Anetsberger Golf Course. Responsible for day-to-day supervision of the crew and assurance that daily work tasks are completed. Applies chemicals to turf grass. During the off-season, collaborates with the Mechanic in maintaining all grounds equipment and works with supervisor to plan for next season. May be asked to work flexible schedules, including evenings, weekends, early mornings and overtime as necessary.

    Pay: $25.00 per hour with FREE health benefits. Opportunity for overtime.

    Starting Date: No earlier than 2/6/2023

    Duties and Responsibilities

    • Perform golf course grounds maintenance and repair work based on task assignment; mowing, planting, cultivating and watering grass, trees, flowers and shrubs; changing cups, repairing ball washers, raking sand traps and repairing the irrigation system.
    • Lead the day-to-day task performance and task completion of golf grounds crew members as assigned and directed by supervisor; assist supervisor with scheduling daily work tasks and assignment of tasks to crew; keeps supervisor informed of crew task completion and seeks guidance for issues that arise.
    • Provide guidance and coaching to crew members; train in proper maintenance and equipment techniques; ensures that work is performed in a safe manner and crew is utilizing personal protective equipment (PPE).
    • Coordinate training and coaching of new crew members by utilizing knowledge of experienced crew members to assist with productivity of the crew.
    • Operate riding and power hand mowers and/or a tractor with attachments for the mowing of golf course turf on greens, fairways, rough and peripheral areas; operates all other equipment used in the maintenance of the golf course.
    • Operate spraying equipment to apply chemical substances to grass (stimulate growth or control weeds, diseases and pests). Apply pesticides in accordance with Illinois Department of Agriculture guidelines.
    • Inspect golf grounds for weed and diseases, safety and usability; ensure corrective action is taken as needed; report potential hazards to supervisor, staff and/or the public.
    • Operate automotive equipment such as pickup trucks with trailer attachments, small dump trucks, small tractors with 3-point attachments and small backhoes.
    • Assist in determining materials and supplies needed for projects; ensure necessary materials and supplies are gathered and/or purchased.
    • Assist with equipment repair and facility maintenance at the golf course during off-season.
    • Respond to emergency requests for repairs outside of regular work hours.


    • Completion of four (4) years of high school or equivalent, including three (3) year of experience in one of the following areas: general golf grounds maintenance, horticulture management; turf management.
    • Crew leader experience preferred.
    • Tools, materials, methods and procedures used in maintenance
    • Possession of a valid Illinois Drivers License Class D
    • Operate tools and equipment used in maintenance
    • Operate trucks, mowers, tractors
    • Midwest plant identification; identify diseases, pests and infestations
    • Recordkeeping
    • Work independently and efficiently without direct supervision
    • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing
    • Ability to become CPR and AED certified at or after hire
    • Possession of an Illinois Pesticide Operators License or ability to obtain within three (3) months of hire
    • Snow plowing experience, tree removal experience, and Spanish speaking skills also a plus.

    Course Information

    This is a unique opportunity to working for the Northbrook Park District managing multiple golf courses. This position will have responsibilities at Heritage Oaks Golf Club and Anetsberger Golf Course. Heritage Oaks, formerly Sportsmans Country Club, has a long history in Northbrook of providing exceptional public golf. In August of 2021 the 27 hole facility was reopened after a 18 month renovate and rebranding. The renovations included new clubhouse, fully revamped range, drainage improvements, reconstruction of the Classic 18 push up greens, addition of new forward tees, and complete re-grass of greens, tees, and fairways with 007. Anetsberger Golf Course is a nine-hole Par three course that is a hidden gem in Northbrook.

    Maple Bluff Country Club is currently looking to add a valuable member to our Greens and Grounds Department. The ideal candidate would have a strong agronomic background, golf course management experience combined with the desire to function as a team. Maple Bluff Country Club, established in 1899, is a private 18-hole facility located in Madison, Wisconsin. Other amenities include full-service clubhouse, fitness center, golf simulator, swimming pool, clay and asphalt tennis courts and paddle tennis courts.

    Education and Experience Requirements: 

    • Associates or bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Turf

    Management, Agronomy, or related field.

    • Desire to supplement current education and experience with continuing education offered through local and national associations.
    • At least 3 years of experience in Golf Course Maintenance.

    Additional Requirements and Responsibilities:

    • Assists in all facets of golf course and grounds maintenance and management.
    • Supports personnel acquisition, training, and supervision.
    • Helps to develop and implement agronomic plans including soil/water testing, plant protectant applications, fertility management and various turf cultivation practices.
    • Course improvement project prioritization and completion.
    • Irrigation and pumping systems maintenance and operation. (New in 2022/2023)
    • Assists in maintaining accurate application records and inventories.
    • Facilitates tree and landscape master plan including removals, replanting and maintenance.
    • Possess a positive attitude, ability to work efficiently and function as a team.

    • Valid Driver’s License
    • Category 3.0 WI Pesticide Applicator Certification obtained prior to Spring of 2023.
    • Willingness to work 40 hours/week and every other weekend during the golf season. Optional: 4, 10-hour day schedule during off season. Tuesday through Friday or Monday through Thursday. Some snow removal duties.
    • Knowledge of the game of golf a plus.
    • Spanish speaking ability a plus.

    Spring Hill Golf Club is a Tom Fazio designed course, opened for play in 1999 and is currently ranked in the Top 100 courses in both Golf Digest and Golf Week Magazine. We are a private golf club located 20 miles west of downtown Minneapolis that averages 8,000 rounds of golf each year and requires the members and their guest to use professional caddie services throughout the season.

    Job Summary

    The 2 nd Assistant Superintendent will report directly to the Director of Grounds and work side-by-side with the management team to provide quality playing conditions on a daily basis. The position will focus heavily on personnel management, implementing the agronomic program, directing special projects, and playing a role in daily maintenance routines.  A successful candidate will have career goals of advancing in the profession of Turfgrass Management and have the desire to be a leader in the industry. Spring Hill Golf Club commits to giving each Assistant Superintendent the time and education needed to advance in the industry at the individuals own pace.


    • Assist in the preparation and implementation of the annual maintenance budget

    Assistant Grounds Superintendent


    The Assistant Grounds Superintendent plays a key role in the maintenance, operation and management of Brooks 27-hole golf course by overseeing all facets of daily course operation. This is a year-round 12-month position.
