Turfwerks is hiring a full-time Service Technician in our Johnston, IA location to maintain and repair all brands of equipment including Jacobsen, Smithco, Turfco, Steiner and Yanmar.     Essential Functions

    • Repair the mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems of turf equipment
    • Load and transport equipment to customer location; unload and set-up equipment for customer use
    • Prepare and submit, accurate, complete work orders and labor reports in a timely manner
    • Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere to all safety procedures
    • Maintain positive customer relations through professional interactions

    Qualifications

    • Able to identify mechanical issues, adjust, repair and overhaul equipment
    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels
    • Working knowledge of diagnostic equipment, procedures schematics and diagrams
    • Problem solving and critical thinking skills; able to balance multiple priorities and demands simultaneously
    • One to two years of experience in repairing/maintaining small engines preferred
    • Two-year Powersports degree preferred
    • Basic computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook and operate industry-specific software

    Physical Factors

    • The demand of this position often requires a high level of physical endurance. Work is medium to heavy requiring a minimum exertion of 75 lbs of force occasionally and 25 lbs of force frequently to life and move objects.
    • Noise level associated with this position is usually moderate but can fluctuate between being occasionally quiet and sometimes very loud.
    • While performing the requirements of this job, employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
    • Feeling, handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by using hand tools, power tools, air tools, nuts, bolts, small parts is required

    Special Considerations

    • Most often, work is performed in an indoor service bay, however outdoor work may occasionally be required, sometimes in adverse weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.
    • In general, work occurs during regular business hours, Monday - Friday; however work outside normal hours, including overtime and weekend hours are required during peak seasons and to meet service deadlines
    • Day travel is required occasionally; overnight travel is seldom required
    • This position reports to the Turfwerks Service Manager and has frequent contact with other service technicians, warehouse staff, and customers
    • Technicians must supply his/her own hand tools; specialty tools are supplied at Turfwerks’ discretion
    • Final candidate must successfully pass a criminal background and motor vehicle records check; a valid driver’s license is required

    Pay and Benefits

    • Starting pay $1,100 - $1,330 weekly commensurate with skill and experience

    We currently have an opening for a Turf Equipment Technician in our Grimes, Iowa location.  The successful candidate will be an outstanding mechanic with above average diagnostic, hydraulic, electrical and mechanical skills.  The position is full-time, Monday - Friday, 1st shift. 

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Set up equipment per manufacturer and customer specifications.
    • Install necessary parts, check fluid levels, test and assure proper operation.
    • Operate and test equipment to ensure quality standards are met.
    • Safely and effectively use all service and repair tools:  hoist, welder, test equipment, pressure washer, compressors, power tools etc.
    • Safely operate a forklift.
    • Maintain cleanliness and safety of shop area.
    • Effectively work within a team to meet customer needs
    • MTI provides specialized tools specific to our products, however the successful candidate provides his/her own hand and power tools. 

    Education and/or Experience

    • Technical degree (2yr.) or equivalent experience required.
    • Demonstrated experience and effectiveness in diagnosing problems with gas and diesel engines, hydraulics and electrical systems.
    • Computer Skills: Microsoft Office, Parts based lookup tools, Diagnostic Software 
    • Must be able to lift, push, and pull up to 75 pounds.
    • Strong customer service/communication skills.

    Salary $28 - $35 / hour, based upon the qualifications of the selected candidate. Our benefit program includes:

    401(k), medical, dental, vision disability and life insurance, PTO and holiday pay.

    Candidates will be subject to pre-employment background check, drug screen, and physical.

    Briarwood Golf Club is currently accepting applications for a Golf Course Foreman. The Golf Course Foreman works under the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Golf Course Superintendent in a supervisory capacity. This is a 12-month, full-time position. Responsibilities include delegating and performing work assignments, overseeing job performance, and inspecting course conditions.

    Education: high school graduate

    Experience: 1-3 years of golf course or landscape maintenance experience

    Salary: $18-$21 / hour, commensurate with experience

    Duties:

    • Oversees the completion of work assignments by staff members and assists with field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and machinery use.
    • Enforces safe working conditions with all job assignments and is responsible for instructing staff on proper equipment use and work methods.
    • Supervises special projects and labor crews.
    • Reports golf course conditions and all disciplinary problems to the golf course superintendent or assistant golf course superintendent.
    • Opens the maintenance shop and runs operations in the absence of the golf course superintendent and assistant golf course superintendent.

    Employment standards:

    • Basic knowledge of tools, methods, and materials used in golf course and landscape maintenance.
    • Ability to operate light motorized equipment.
    • Ability to follow oral and written directions.
    • Basic knowledge of irrigation systems, including operation and repairs.
    • Possession of a valid Iowa driver's license.

    Mechanic – Hyperion Field Club - Johnston, Iowa (Position available immediately)

    Established in 1910, Hyperion Field Club is a private 18-hole golf club located north of Des Moines, Iowa. The club utilizes a valuable maintenance and golf cart fleet that is on a continual replacement & lease program. The staff is dedicated to a positive environment, prioritizing personal growth.

    The mechanic will perform preventive maintenance and repair of the club’s mowing & maintenance fleet, setting the staff up for success by ensuring all machinery is ready to perform at very tight tolerances. The successful candidate will also repair the golf cart fleet as needed and perform annual maintenance. The candidate reports to the Golf Course Superintendent.

    Education: Two-year certificate is preferred but additional years of experience and certifications will be acceptable in place of a degree.

    Experience: A minimum of 6 months of experience in the repair & maintenance of small to medium equipment is required, and previous golf course experience is preferred.

    Salary: $27-31/ hour, Commensurate with experience

    Duties:

    Perform maintenance and repair of the mowing and golf cart fleet.

    Set mowers up daily, prioritizing greens mower performance.

    Maintain a neat and organized shop, keep records, and participate in a positive work culture.

    Train others in the care and safe operation of tools and equipment.

    Golf course maintenance as needed- mowing, debris removal, etc.

    Perform other tasks as assigned.
