    This person performs a variety of skills work in the turf area including renovation, care and maintenance of specialized turf areas. This person will also assist in the care of plant material including pruning and trimming of trees and shrubs and assisting in all phases of installation and removal. Work also involved is responsibility for performing various manual and light equipment tasks related to turf including spraying, fertilization, irrigation, and all other related maintenance practices to maintain healthy turf in parkways. Work is performed under general supervision and requires the exercise of specialized knowledge in selecting safe and approved work methods, material and tools.



    • Mows, trims, irrigates, seeds, fertilizes, and aerifies specialized turf areas.
    • Assists with aquatic (pond) management which includes aquatic plant control and pond edge maintenance
    • Maintains and repairs grounds and structures related to assigned areas including general clean-up.
    • Assist all general landscaping duties including tree, shrub, and plant maintenance.
    • Maintains records of chemical application schedules, inventories and supplies.
    • Makes minor repairs and adjustments to irrigation systems, mowers and other equipment.
    • Assists in sanding and snow removal operations.
    • Performs related work as required.


    • High school diploma or equivalent.
    • Three (3) years' experience in a specialized turf field such as lawn care, sports field maintenance, or golf course maintenance.
    • Formal training in a turf related field preferred.
    • Possess or be able to attain within six months of employment a valid State of Iowa commercial pesticide applicator's license with certifications in categories 3OT, 5, 6, 7.
    • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver's License issued by the State of Iowa.


    The Civil Service testing process will consist of a 1.) Written test and 2.) Onsite oral board interview.  Details regarding the process will be shared with those meeting minimum qualifications. Pre-employment background check and drug test and physical required.     Turfwerks, based in Johnston, Iowa, is a leading distributor of golf course and turf equipment. Operating in nine Midwest states, the company sells new and used whole goods to clients, in addition to parts and service. Clients include golf courses, sports complexes, parks and recreation facilities, university athletic fields and commercial landscaping businesses.

    Turfwerks is hiring a full-time, experienced Technician to maintain and repair all brands of equipment including Jacobsen, Ventrac, Smithco, and Turfco. We are looking for a dedicated employee with excellent troubleshooting and diagnostic skills to deliver outstanding service as a mechanic to our customers.

    Essential Functions

    • Diagnose and repair the mechanical, hydraulic, gas, diesel, and electrical systems of turf equipment
    • Prepare and submit, accurate, complete work orders and labor reports in a timely manner
    • Maintain a clean, safe work area and adhere to all safety procedures
    • Maintain positive customer relations through professional interactions

    Other Responsibilities

    • Attend training as required


    • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate and negotiate with people at all levels
    • Excellent troubleshooting skills and a working knowledge of diagnostic equipment, procedures schematics and diagrams
    • Exceptional problem solving and critical thinking skills; able to balance multiple priorities and demands simultaneously
    • One to two years of experience in repairing/maintaining equipment preferred
    • Basic computer skills including the ability to use Microsoft Outlook and operate industry-specific software
    • Able to successfully pass a criminal background and motor vehicle records check; valid driver’s license is required

    Physical Factors

    • The demand of this position often requires a high level of physical endurance. Work is medium to heavy requiring a minimum exertion of 75 lbs of force occasionally and 25 lbs of force frequently to life and move objects.
    • Noise level associated with this position is usually moderate but can fluctuate between being occasionally quiet and sometimes very loud.
    • While performing the requirements of this job, employee is frequently required to walk, sit, stand, reach with hands and arms, bend, stoop, kneel, and crouch for extended periods.
    • Feeling, handling and grasping with the hands when performing repairs or maintenance of equipment by using hand tools, power tools, air tools, nuts, bolts, small parts is required

    Special Considerations

    • Full-time, benefits-eligible position
    • Fast paced work environment where customer service is the number one priority.
    • Most often, work is performed in an indoor service bay, however outdoor work may occasionally be required, sometimes in adverse weather conditions including extreme cold and heat.
    • In general, work occurs during regular business hours, Monday - Friday; however work outside normal hours, including overtime and weekend hours are required during peak seasons and to meet service deadlines
    • Day and overnight travel is required on occasion
    • This position reports to the Service Manager and has frequent contact with other service technicians, warehouse staff, and customers
    • Technicians must supply his/her own hand tools; specialty tools are supplied at Turfwerks’ discretion

    Pay and Benefits

    • $500 signing bonus.
    • Starting pay range $23 - $35 per hour commensurate with skill and experience

    Blue Top Ridge Golf Club in Riverside Iowa is currently accepting applications for a Spray Technician.This is a 9 month position, March-November.

    • Applicants should have grounds maintenance experience on golf course

    • Two year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field

    • Currently have or ability to obtain Iowa pesticide certification

    • Valid Driver’s License

    • Pesticide and fertilizer applications

    • Record keeping of applications

    • Drainage and irrigation maintenance

    Available is a Horticulturist position at Crow Valley Golf Club, located in Davenport, Iowa.

    This is a seasonal full-time position.

    Job duties will include, but not limited to; proper maintenance of all annual and perennial areas, including clubhouse and pool areas.

    -proper planting practices

    -edging and weeding beds when in need

    -ability to lift over 50 lbs.
