    Job Summary:
    The mechanic reports to the Golf Course Superintendent and oversees a comprehensive preventive maintenance program. This program includes the repair of failing equipment, preventive maintenance, keeping records of parts services needed to maintain each piece of equipment, and placing orders for parts and supplies needed for equipment or service. The mechanic communicates any needs or problems relating to the maintenance or repair of equipment to the Superintendent and schedules and completes services as to allow normal golf course operation. The mechanic places safety as a top priority and is responsible for maintaining a clean service area and maintenance building. 

    Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

    • Maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements on equipment and tools following operations manuals and manufacturer’s instructions, as well as supervisors instructions
    • Maintains equipment, parts and supply inventories by checking stock inventories, anticipating needed equipment, parts and supplies, placing and expediting orders, and verifying receipt
    • Repairs failing equipment
    • Provides mechanical maintenance reports by maintaining documentation of repairs
    • Provides information and input regarding training on proper use and maintenance of equipment by communicating with the Superintendent and staff
    • Ensures shop remains clean and orderly and that tools are kept clean and in proper working condition 

    Additional Responsibilities:

    • Maintains good working relationships with vendors and Club staff
    • Performs fabrications when necessary
    • Operates equipment periodically
    • Maintains familiarity with all safety programs 

    Minimum Qualifications & Skill Requirements:

    • High School diploma required (Specialty/Technical Training preferred) and 2 years of related experience in reel grinding, small engine repair, welding, electrical, carpentry, or equivalent combination of educations and experience preferred
    • Ability to diagnose mechanical troubles and determine appropriate maintenance work. Ability to operate and troubleshoot the following equipment is required: diesel tractors/diesel engines, gasoline powered automobiles/engines, tractor attachments and hydraulic systems, trenchers, turbine blowers, rollers, mowing equipment, backhoes, skidsteers, trash pumps and other mechanical equipment used in utility work, reel grinders, and small tools (weedeaters, chainsaws, backpack blowers, etc.)
    • Ability to read and follow manuals, evaluate manufacturer’s specifications, and resolve equipment problems
    • Ability to communicate effectively and keep service records
    • Valid Iowa driver’s license
    • Ability to move heavy objects
    • Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions while repairing equipment.

    Medinah Country Club is seeking a full time mechanic.  Competitive compensation package includes: full health/dental/vision, meals, uniforms, 401K plan, relocation allowance, cell phone allowance, continuing education/tool allowance, paid time off system. Required skills: diesel, 4-cycle, 2 cycle, hydraulics, welding, fabrication and computer experience; demonstrated ability to work cooperatively in a team atmosphere.

    Responsibilities and Duties:     


    • The Head Mechanic will report to the Director of Grounds and Course Superintendents. The primary responsibilities are to maintain the entire equipment inventory in a “like new” condition, recommend areas of improvement and new equipment purchases, manage the design and renovation of the mechanics work space, recommend policies and procedures to keep equipment clean and organized, fuel and oil inventory, interact with staff and vendors in a positive manner.

    • In 2019 Medinah will host the BMW Championship. Between today and the Championship, the entire equipment inventory (approximately $3million) will need to be serviced and brought up to a championship standard. The mechanic bay will be cleaned, organized and renovated over the next 18 months. The successful candidate will lead that project in conjunction with the Director of Grounds.

    • Superintendents and Assistants with an aptitude for mechanical repairs given strong consideration.
