Echo Valley was founded in 1969 by Ed Coppola. Throughout the 56 years the Club has continued to be owned and operated by the Coppola family. This new hire will only be the 5th superintendent in the history of the Club. The 27-hole Larry Packard/Rick Robbins design course includes the original Vale/Creek courses and Ridge nine. In 2002 Rick Robbins designed the Ridge nine which is regarded by many as the best 9 holes in the state of Iowa. Robbins has been back a number of times since 2002 working on different renovations. Since 2020 there have been a number of significant projects including; cap con bunkers throughout all the courses, new irrigation on the Creek and a new pump station, XGD on the Vale & Creek greens, new green surrounds on the Creek, new greens on the Vale, extensive tree and drainage work, massive upgrades on equipment, and much more.

This position will require high energy, enthusiasm, problem solving, technology skills, and most importantly a passion for the game. They will report to ownership and management in developing both short-term and long-term planning.

Education Requirements:

  • Associates Degree or Certificate in Agronomy
  • GCSAA membership in good standing
  • Knowledge of local and federal regulatory compliance associated with course management
  • Must obtain Iowa commercial pesticide and fertilizer license within 60 days

Experience Requirements:

  • 5+ years of golf course management experience
  • Knowledge of maintaining budgets and effectively managing a crew
  • Ability to assemble a team and create a great team culture
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized, motivated and efficient
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Communication and interpersonal skills
  • Priority focus on daily setup, moisture management, consistency and playability
  • Previous supervisory experience is required but qualified assistant superintendents will be strongly considered
  • Ability to use all technology to improve course conditions

  • Deep knowledge of the irrigation system
  • Water management
  • High energy, enthusiasm, and commitment
  • Communication skills, both oral and written
  • An understanding of today’s golfers needs
  • Motivating the staff on a daily basis
  • Working a rotation of 27-holes that include an 18-hole daily course and an off nine later in the day
  • Tournament prep which includes member tournaments, IGA Championships (Sani every other year and 125th Iowa Amateur in 2027)
  • Consistency in course playability on a daily basis
  • No corporate outings, so plenty of opportunities for proactive maintenance

Salary Range

  • 130K to 150K annually
