JOB TITLE: Golf Course Superintendent

REPORTS TO: Owner

Position Summary:

Sugar Maple Golf Club is seeking a dedicated and skilled Golf Course Superintendent to oversee the maintenance and daily operations of our scenic 18-hole course. This is an excellent opportunity for someone passionate about creating exceptional playing conditions while leading a motivated grounds team. The ideal candidate will bring strong agronomic knowledge, hands-on turf management skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

• Maintain the golf course to high standards of playability and appearance.
• Oversee all daily maintenance operations, including mowing, watering, landscaping, and bunker care.
• Manage, maintain, and repair irrigation and drainage systems.
• Apply fertilizers, pesticides, and herbicides in compliance regulations and safety protocols.
• Supervise, motivate, delegate, and retain maintenance staff; monitor performance in a positive constructive manner.
• Maintain golf course equipment and coordinate necessary repairs.
• Control maintenance expenses, including supplies, equipment, chemicals, and fertilizers, within budget guidelines.
• Develop and provide an annual maintenance plan and recommendations for course improvements.
• Communicate effectively with staff, members, vendors, and the board to ensure smooth operations and a positive golfing experience.

Qualifications & Requirements:

Education:

• Preferred: Associates or Bachelor’s degree/certificate in turf management, agronomy, horticulture, or a related field.
• Must possess a Illinois Commercial Pesticide Applicator’s license.

Experience:

• 5 to 6 years as Assistant or Superintendent

• Ability to operate and maintain a variety of turf and care equipment.

Compensation:

• Salary Range: Negotiable on Experience
