  Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Job Description

  Classification: Salary (Overtime Exempt)
  Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent

  Salary: $38,000 to $42,000 plus benefits (depending upon qualifications and experience)

  Position Summary

  The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a working assistant superintendent position. The assistant superintendent is responsible for supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in all of their duties, which are listed as follows;

  Golf Course Superintendent’s Duties: Ensuring both the 18-hole Lake Panorama National Golf Course and Panorama West Golf Course are kept in good playing condition seven days a week throughout the golf season. Duties include, but are not limited to, the development and implementation of the operating and agronomic plans, hiring, training and supervision of the maintenance team, managing equipment purchasing and maintenance (during both the golf season and off-season) and coordinating with management and the pro shop to ensure smooth operation between LPN departments.. The Golf Course Superintendent must be focused on providing consistently high-quality playing conditions while staying within budget. The individual should be a strong leader, a good communicator, detail-oriented, self-motivated and experienced in turf management.

  Duties and Responsibilities of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

• Support operations of the maintenance department at Lake Panorama National Golf Course and Panorama West Golf Course.
•  Support maintenance of both courses in proper playing condition according to LPN and industry standards.
•  Assist Superintendent with planning and implementation of staff schedules to ensure quality standards are achieved with high efficiency.
• Assist in development of  annual operating plans and implement within budget.
• Perform various maintenance duties as necessary to maintain the golf courses in proper playing condition and according to LPN standards.
• Assist in  course construction projects.
• Assist in the maintenance and repair equipment as needed. Inspect for operating deficiencies. Lubricate and service equipment as necessary.
•  Assist in maintaining service, repair and usage records on all equipment.
• Assist in establishing  and implementing a cleaning and preventative maintenance program for appropriate equipment, tools, vehicles etc.
• Demonstrate to staff the use of equipment and train in safe operation.
• Follow  safety procedures and ensure part-time staff is adhering to safety protocols.
•  Assist in managing irrigation practices and scheduling to ensure optimal levels of soil moisture for playability and turf health.
•  Assist in routine inspection and upkeep of the irrigation systems including changes and repairs as necessary.
•  Assist in monitoring turf grass health and ensuring the courses are being presented at the desired level of conditioning.
•  Assist in  fertilizer and pesticide applications as necessary.
•  Assist in management of part-time  golf course maintenance personnel.
• Show good leadership by reinforcing expectations of LPN management and Golf Course Superintendent to part-time staff.

• Requirements of the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent

• Must be capable of filling-in for Golf Course Superintendent when necessary.
• Education in a Turfgrass related field preferred, but not required.
• Experience in the golf industry or related field preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to work flexible hours as required including nights and weekends. 
• Must be able to maintain a positive attitude, professional manner and appearance in all situations.
• Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
